Web Development with SASS/Compass: UCLA Library RWD Tips

Title

Web Development with SASS/Compass: UCLA Library RWD Tips

Abstract

New web development at the UCLA Library: we've setup our new Library web site (currently under development) using Drupal and the Omega 4 framework, which uses sass and compass. New frontend development requires us to setup sass+compass and work in a new development model. This intro talk will discuss using SASS/Compass, Ruby Gems, RVM installation woes, and working in this new paradigm. It will touch on Jira/Confluence and Git.

If interested, I can delve into the Omega 4 theme setup: you might want to have a read through the omega 4 documentation, which will help you get your dev environment setup with sass, etc.

In particular, I will discuss sass partials and mixins as they relate to our new Library web site.

I will also touch on our use of Github as a central repo for all development on the new site and touch on a few project tools: jira confluence for dev tracking.
